Story NUI

Build browser-based interfaces inside GTA V Story Mode. Story NUI is a free WreckD developer resource combining a Chromium host, transparent Direct3D 11 rendering, a C# SDK and a JavaScript bridge.

For mod developers

• Create HTML, CSS and JavaScript menus, HUDs and notifications over gameplay.
• Send game data from C# to your interface and handle UI callbacks in your script.
• Coordinate input focus between Story NUI plugins; passive HUDs yield to interactive menus.
• Use optional persistent browser profiles.
• Start with the supplied developer documentation and example plugin source.

The framework does not open a menu by itself. Install an addon that uses Story NUI, or try one of the optional examples.

Optional examples

The Showcase demonstrates a protagonist HUD, health, armor, speed, game time and wanted level. Its menu includes waypoint, time/weather, vehicle-repair, notification and display-setting examples. F8 opens/closes the Showcase menu; F9 toggles its HUD when the menu is closed; Escape closes the menu. Hello UI is a separate minimal example.

The package also includes an experimental GameTexture helper for developers. Read its supplied documentation before relying on it; it is not a standalone installable mod.

1. Close GTA V. Install Script Hook V, ScriptHookVDotNet 3 and Microsoft .NET 9 Desktop Runtime x64.
2. Open GTA Root inside the archive and copy its CONTENTS into the game folder containing GTA5.exe. Merge both scripts and StoryNui; do not create a GTA Root subfolder.
3. Only StoryNui.dll belongs in scripts. Keep Chromium/browser files in the top-level GTA V/StoryNui folder.
4. For upgrades, back up existing folders and read the archive’s README before merging. Move an old scripts/StoryNui browser folder to the top-level StoryNui location as instructed, retaining cache/preferences.
5. Optional: choose a Developer Examples addon and copy the contents of its GTA Root folder into the game. Restart Story Mode.
